A grandmother of eight is going to be able to buy her daughter her dream wedding dress thanks to scooping an incredible £30,000 prize with People’s Postcode Lottery.

Margaret McIntyre, from Symington, landed the win when her lucky postcode, KA1 5RT, was announced as a winner on Saturday.

The 54-year-old, who works for an accounting firm in Darvel, was lost for words when she pulled her cheque out of its envelope.

She said: “Oh wow. I’m speechless and that never happens!

“There’s four more zeroes on this cheque than I expected to get. I’m overjoyed and feel wonderful just now. You never know if it’s real or not because you never expect it to happen to you, but it has and now I know it’s not made up!

“My daughter Sarah is getting married in November next year and I’m charge of getting the dress, so she can have her choice of wedding dresses now!”

Margaret was delighted with the win

Margaret is also planning to put some of the windfall towards a winter city break.

She added: “I’d love to take a wee trip to Paris around Christmas time with my husband Dugald.

"Between us both we have four children and eight grandchildren so there’s no shortage of people to help spend the money but I’m going to be sure not to just let it dwindle away.”

As the only person playing with KA1 5RT, Margaret was the only winner in Symington on Saturday but had anyone else been playing they too would have won £30,000.

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt was in Symington to deliver Margaret’s cheque to her.

The win left Margaret speechless

She said: “It was a pleasure to meet Margaret and make her day by presenting her with a lovely big prize.

"I’m delighted her daughter is now going to be able to get the dress of her dreams for her wedding and I hope she and her family have a great time celebrating her good fortune.”

A minimum of 32 per cent of ticket sales goes directly to charities and good causes.

Players of People’s Postcode Lottery have helped raise more than £462 million to date for projects across Britain and internationally.

This draw was promoted on behalf of children’s cancer charity Clic Sargent.

Clic Sargent has received over £7.3 million thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery to help with its mission of supporting children and young people with cancer, as well as their families.
