How does the process work?

If there are multiple candidates, the leadership contest is usually held in two stages.

The 1922 Commission's Executive Committee, together with the Conservative Party Headquarters, will determine the rules and procedures for conducting the contest.

These rules and schedules were announced by the Chairman of the 1922 Committee.

In the first stage, a series of votes will reduce the number of candidates.

If necessary, multiple votes will remove the candidate with the least votes and re-vote the MP until only two candidates remain.
