BREAKING: Police confirm body of 4-year-old girl found after terrifying gas explosion at Thornton Heath

Police have announced that a four-year-old girl has been found dead in an explosion in a residential area.

Four people were rescued and three were taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries following the explosion on Galpins Road, Thornton Heath.

The London Fire Brigade declared a child dead at the scene this afternoon.

The latest London Metropolitan Police statement said:

"London Fire Brigade was enlisted and the body of a child, believed to be a 4-year-old girl, was recovered from the building.

"Her next of kin have been notified and It is supported by specially trained police officers.

”An investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing, along with colleagues from the LFB.

"Road closures will be in place around the site while this work continues."
