LIV Golf member Bryson DeChambeau has sent his critics a defiant message in the wake of his controversial switch to the Saudi-backed series. DeChambeau has not been far from controversy throughout his playing career, and this year has proven no different.
The 2020 US Open winner was one of the marquee names to make the contentious move from the PGA Tour to the LIV Golf Series earlier this summer, which only mounted the criticism on his shoulders. Nearly four months on from his switch, DeChambeau has released a statement on the matter.
Taking to social media, the American wrote: "Albeit I understand people’s viewpoint may have changed a bit about me, I can tell you I have learned a lot about life and grown tremendously.
“My faith, my beliefs and character have been continually tested each and every year, especially these past few years, and although I fail all the time, I continue to make improvements to be a better version of myself each and every year."
He went on: "I continue to tinker, change and love to learn. One of my favourite lines in life is, ‘you only have one go at the game of life, so why not live a life worth dying for.’
"No matter what anyone thinks about me, I can promise you I will always give you my all. I care beyond belief and want the best for everyone. I hope everyone gets the chance to fairly see who I am one day. I may not do everything right by everyone’s eyes but I will do my best to be a better version of myself.”
DeChambeau was in action over the weekend, but not competing in the Saudi-funded series. He returned to compete in the Professional Long Drivers Association World Championships after appearing in 2021 where he finish seventh.

Getty Images)The American impressively bettered his finish from last year's event, nearly pulling off a shock result as he finished second with a longest hit of 406 yards. DeChambeau was beaten by eventual champion Martin Borgmeier, who hit a whopping 426-yard drive to win the competition.
Whilst the 2020 US Open winner did not provide comment post-tournament, Borgmeier paid tribute to him in his victory speech. He said: “There is one very, very important thing, and all of you guys know.
"I would not be here, none of us would be here with the improvements in technology, if one guy wouldn’t have come in a year ago to make the sport what it is right now, and I think he’s on a very good track to come back, and that guy is Bryson DeChambeau.”
