CCTV image released of man in connection with attempted Edinburgh theft

A CCTV image has been released of a man who police wish to speak to after a teen girl nearly had her phone nicked in Edinburgh eight months ago.

The incident took place at around 1.40pm on Friday, April 15, when an individual attempted to steal the phone of a 16-year-old girl in Princes Street Gardens East, near to the access gate from Waverley Bridge.

Police Scotland believe the man pictured may hold information that could assist as part of an ongoing investigation which has been launched in the wake of the incident.

The man in the photo is described as white, 20 to 30-years-old, 5ft 10in to 5ft 11in in height, of medium build and short dark hair brushed forward. He was wearing a dark blue t-shirt, jeans and trainers on the afternoon in question.

Cops want to hear from the man shown or anyone who may have witnessed the attempted snatch to come forward by contacting officers via 101 quoting incident number 1782 of Friday, 15 April 2022 when calling.
