The Co-op is strengthening its links with the local community.
There is now a team of six member pioneers across the region with more to follow.
Palnackie’s Bob Shipway has been leading the recruitment drive in his role as member pioneer co-ordinator.
He said: “Each of our member pioneers works as a link between one or more specific Co-op stories and their local community. It was really enjoyable getting the team together just before Christmas for them to all meet up for the first time.”
Two of the six new pioneers are in the Stewartry, with Nick Hoare taking on the role at Dalbeattie and Angela Orro in Castle Douglas.
Others have been appointed in Gretna, Langholm, Kelloholm and at Newton Stewart and Wigtown. There are also plans to recruit one in Kirkcudbright as well as in Thornhill and Moffat.
Angela said: “Our colleagues in Co-op stores already do an enormous amount for the communities they serve.
“As member pioneers, we work an average of four hours a week to add to this amazing work and undertake a wider outreach into our communities linking people, organisations, local causes and the third sector as required to get things done.
“We’re an eclectic team in Dumfries and Galloway and are the stronger for it. We have different interests, a diverse set of complementary skills and a wide range of experience and age.
What unites us is the desire to work with others to improve our local communities. We look forward to completing our team in the next few weeks.”
