A 17-year-old girl died in front of her father after her car locks and handbrakes were automatically activated. The car was driven downhill and ahearing was held. Aaliyah Sedley Jones, known as Lily, sat waiting alone in her private car[6] when she started the engine for "unknown" reasons, according to a BBC report. Her desperate efforts to open the door and stop the Citroën driving away were thwarted byher father Benjamin Her Jones. Benjamin Jones watched in horror as she automatically locked up and flipped over because of her speed. At an inquest held yesterday, Lilly was told that she died in a crash in Weston, Somerset on January 5th. I heard her start the engine in her driver's seat. The coroner was told the Citroen's C4 lock doors when the speed reached 6 mph. Her father said at her inquest:
"I don't understand why Lily got into the driver's seat and tried to drive the car." Reported to have flipped BristolLive.
After a desperate rescue effort by neighbors, family members and paramedics failed, Lily died at the scene shortly before 9pm. Police said at the inquest that Lily had never driven a car before and only had a learner's license, the BBC reported. 's Maria Voisin judged the death to be an "accident". The cause of death was announced as brain damage.
Upon her death, Lily's mother said in her statement: You made the most of every day of your life.
"You were my best friend. You breathed fresh air and brightened every room you entered. You were so afraid of losing someone you loved." My only consolation is that at least now everyone who knows what you're feeling doesn't have to suffer the pain.
