Staff and customers at the Dumfries Marks and Spencer store have been playing tag for the Standard’s Toy Appeal.
A Christmas tree next to the instore coffee shop has been loaded with our appeal’s red tags and we are asking readers to pick one from the branches and donate an age-suitable unwrapped new toy in the nearby baskets.
We are trying to fill our lists quickly this year because of the pandemic and are in need of donations of toys, sweet treats and gift vouchers for vulnerable children – from babies to teenagers – referred to us by the local agencies.
And please get your gifts in to the appeal as soon as possible this year as it ends on December 14.
We are currently running short of gifts for newborns to one-year-olds, plus both boys and girls aged two and three.
As well as M&S, we also have collection boxes at Morrisons supermarket in Dumfries, Tesco Extra at Cuckoo Bridge and Tesco at the Peel Centre – just look for our appeal posters.
Toys can also be handed into the Dumfries Nationwide branch between 9am and 2pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and from 10am to 2pm on Wednesdays.
It is essential this year to make sure:
■ No secondhand toys.
■ Toys must be new, unused and sealed, boxed or tagged.
■ Please do not wrap toys in Christmas paper.
Our office is closed but you can make a cash donation into our bank account at the Bank of Scotland in Dumfries either in branch or online via your own bank or building society.
The Standard Toy Appeal account number is 10856666 and the sort code is 80-22-60.
■ Please get in touch if you are an organisation, group or business with donations and we’d welcome any photographs of yourselves with toys or cheques for the appeal.
