Ethiopian flight overflows runway after both pilots 'fall asleep' before descent

Passengers on flight bound for Ethiopia said the plane landed safely despite two pilots falling asleep before the descent. He was lucky enough to escape when he did, the report said.

Flight ET343 was en route from Khartoum, Sudan to Addis Ababa at an altitude of 37,000 feet when the shocking incident occurred on August 15th. At Addis Ababa Bole Airport, I was awakened for the first time when the autopilot disconnected after an unsuccessful attempt by air traffic control to contact the cockpit and an alarm sounded.

The flight then landed safely despite overflowing the runway and having to make another approach.

Daily Mail reported that the aircraft passed the runway reported that data indicating that confirmed the incident. Once the pilot awoke, we made a second approach.

Aviation analyst Alex Macheras wrote on Twitter: Ababa.

``Why didn't you start the descent for landing? Both pilots were asleep.

"After overflying the runway (still at cruising altitude), the autopilot disconnected - and this chime alarm woke the pilot - then, We began our descent and eventually made a safe landing.

"Pilot fatigue is nothing new and is recognized internationally as one of the most serious threats to aviation safety."

"Just last week, pilots openly criticized British leisure airline Jet 2 for 'refusing to acknowledge concerns about pilot fatigue.'"

Internet users on social media were shocked by the incident, with some calling it "professionalism." It lacks quality and is dangerous." Other Twitter users wondered whether airlines were giving pilots enough rest time.

Another respondent said the issue was more common than people thought. claiming to be true and writing:

ABC 7 Eyewitness News reported another incident in April when two of his other pilots allegedly fell asleep on a flight from New York to Rome.

An investigation into an ITA Airways flight revealed that two pilots had fallen asleep while flying over France.

One of his pilots was resting, but the captain, who was not, fell asleep at the same time.

In that incident, air traffic control lost contact with the plane for about ten minutes, prompting fighters to prepare to intercept the plane in case the problem escalated into a terrorist incident.

Ultimately the pilot responded and an investigation resulted in the dismissal of the captain.
