Former Coronation Street star Sonia Ibrahim has revealed that she's expecting her first child.

Sonia, who played Mel Maguire in Corrie, shared a series of delighted snaps showing herself holding a baby scan while her husband Arron Machin pointed at the picture.

The delighted couple both wore pink to announce their exciting news and they stood alongside a large balloon with the words 'It's a girl.'

The actress and model is due to give birth in January.

"#15weekspregnant #mamatobe #daddysgirl #pregnant #babygirl #itsagirl #cloudnine #dreamscometrue #mylittleprincess #truelove #family #myworld" she said on her social media.

In 2017 Sonia's character was at the centre of a sinister grooming storyline involving teenager Bethany Platt and creepy tanning shop boss.

Bethany was groomed by sadistic Nathan and fans at first viewed Mel as a co-conspirator, until it became apparent that she was once in the same position.

Lucy Fallon, who played Bethany, was among the well-wishers thrilled to learn their happy news.

"Ahhhhhhhhh congratulations guys! Amazing news," she commented.

And another follower said: "Aaarrraaahhhhh wow, such wonderful news!!! Congratulations you beautiful lady, you're going to make the most amazing mummy."

In 2017 Arron proposed to Sonia at Manchester Town Hall.

She posted a picture as her man got down on bended knee on the tiled floor next to the grand stone staircases inside the town hall.

And she posted the message with the words: “I’M ENGAGED this is the moment my beautiful husband to be asked me to be his wife. I honestly couldn’t ask for a more perfect man to be my soon to be husband.”

Sonia told the M.E.N: “I’m so happy to be engaged. He is my best friend as well as my partner and we’re excited to spend the rest of our lives together! "Although we’d discussed the possibility of it happening one day, I wasn’t expecting it anytime soon so it was a huge surprise.

“Without going into too much detail, he took me to Manchester Town Hall pretending we were supposed to be trying a new restaurant in there.

“Upstairs is a beautiful space which they call The Bees where we stood talking. He then surprised me by getting down on his knee with the ring in his hand. I burst into tears and of course said yes!

“It was the most special moment of my life and we couldn’t be happier. We’ve been together for a long time and it feels like the right time to take our relationship to the next level.”
