Glasgow city centre lane taped off by cops after woman 'sexually assaulted'

A lane in Glasgow city centre has been cordoned off by police after a young woman was reportedly sexually assaulted.

The alarm was raised around 7.55am on Sunday when officers were alerted to a 30-year-old woman having been subject to a 'serious' sexual attack on Renfield Lane.

Cops swooped on the area and locked down the lane to pedestrians from both Hope Street and Renfield Street. It is understood the force remains on site this evening, and that a probe has been launched to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the distressing event, according to GlasgowLive.

The ongoing investigation has also meant an urgent last-minute venue change for a gig which was due to take place at music spot Stereo on Renfield Lane tonight.

Louis Dunford was scheduled to perform in the space but ticketholders have since been advised that the gig will now take place in the Classic Grand on Jamaica Street.

It is not known when Stereo and The Old Hairdressers, another bar located on Renfield Lane, will be able to reopen their doors. PCL Presents, a Glasgow-based promoter company, wrote on Instagram: "Urgent Louis Dunford venue change.

"Unfortunately due to a police incident there is no access available to Stereo today, this is not the venue's fault but we have managed to secure the Classic Grand, doors are 7.30pm."

We would like to thank the team at the Classic Grand for making this happen at such short notice."

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “Around 7.55am on Sunday, October 2, police received a report of a serious sexual assault on a 30-year-old woman in Renfield Lane, Glasgow.

"Enquiries are at an early stage into this incident.”
