Good Morning Britain viewers were left shocked today as Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard clashed in their 'first argument in 20 years.'

During a debate on this morning's edition of the popular ITV daytime show, the pair erupted into a fierce row over whether it is acceptable to recline your seat on a short haul flight.

It comes after a video blew up on social media of a passenger aboard an American Airlines flight repeatedly punching the head-rest of the seat in front after a woman reclined her seat mid-flight.

Apparently, the passenger asked the woman to put her seat in the up-right position while he was eating, which she allegedly did, but the woman then proceeded to recline her seat afterwards.

Both Ben and Kate were at odds about whether the behaviour of both passengers was acceptable.

While arguing that the position of the up-right seat can sometimes be uncomfortable, Ben cut Kate off mid-sentence and said: "No OK, but the seats don't go fully back. The seats only go a small portion back."

The presenters started shouting over each other during the debate

Kate then fiercely replied: "Hey, let me finish. We haven't had a row in 20 years. It might kick off this morning."

Ben pressed on and said: "Here's the thing. You're absolutely right. There's a reclining function on all these seats."

Ben continued: "Just because you can, should you do it when you're on a short haul flight and make everyone uncomfortable?"

He added:  "I don't need to put my case forward as the majority of viewers are putting it for me."

Huffing Kate said: "Because I've not had a chance to."

Good Morning Britain viewers were left shocked by the pair's spat and their behaviour. Some took to social media to chime in on the debate.

One Twitter user wrote: "For god sake Ben, let Kate speak and stop talking over everyone !!!"

Another added: "I am with Ben on this, its just rude to recline your seat on a short haul flight, planes should be made with seats that don't recline on short haul . I think only selfish people do this," said a third.

A third said: "@benshephard You’re coming across very hostile and rude just because @kategarraway doesn’t agree with you...what’s your name @piersmorgan ? Chill out mate!"

"Have just seen #gmb by mistake and they still talk over each other even without Piers! It's a short haul flight....over and over! I'm with Kate! Lots of reasons to need to use recliner (2 inches) @GMB now back to @BBCBreakfast and ....calm," argued a fourth.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
