Hamilton schoolgirl wins Lanarkshire politician's Christmas card design competition

A Hamilton schoolgirl's artistic design has been chosen to be Lanark and Hamilton East MP Angela Crawley’s Christmas card for 2022.

Our Lady and St Anne’s Primary pupil Jennifer McAllion’s entry was selected out of more than 600 from across the constituency to be used as the MPs official festive offering.

Jennifer’s designed encompassed the theme for this year’s competition – peace – and incorporated traditional elements of Christmas.

This year’s competition was run in support of the Child Poverty Action Group in Scotland and raised £250 for the charity.

Last week, Angela visited Our Lady and St Anne’s Primary to present Jennifer with a certificate and a copy of her winning card.

The MP said: "It was difficult picking a winner as the standard of entry was very high so congratulations to Jennifer on her design.

“This was the first year that I have been able to run the competition following the coronavirus pandemic and I’m delighted that so many pupils across the constituency have gotten involved.

The winning design will become MP Angela Crawley's Christmas Card

“I would also like to thank Tunnocks for kindly agreeing to sponsor this year’s competition which was run in support of the Child Poverty Action Group in Scotland.”

Catherine Currie, Our Lady and St Anne’s Primary head teacher, said: “We are delighted that Jennifer was the winner of the Christmas Card Competition for Angela Crawley MP. Jennifer is a kind, caring and hardworking pupil who always tries her best in all that she does.

“We are so very proud of her and hope that her Christmas design, showing peace at Christmas, brings peace and happiness to those who receive it.”

Pupils were asked to come up with a design along the theme of peace and, in total, 613 entries were received from 19 schools across Lanark and Hamilton East.
