A new trailer for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s upcoming Netflix documentary appears to use edited footage of Katie Price making a court appearance.
The 63-second clip shows the Sussexes promising to unveil ‘the full truth’ about ‘dirty’ media tactics which they claim forced them to leave behind their lives as working royals.
As Harry accuses the press of a ‘feeding frenzy’ targeting Ms Markle, a montage of images shows the couple in various situations interspersed with shots showing packs of paparazzi.
At one point, a brief shot of the couple being photographed attending an event is followed by another short clip of photographers and cameramen rushing to capture something happening off-screen.
A building shown in the clip was recognised as being Crawley Magistrates’ Court, where Ms Price was sentenced for drink-driving in December last year.
Archive footage of the glamour model-turned-TV personality arriving at the hearing contains the precise moment shown in the Harry and Meghan trailer.
The footage shown in the trailer is mirrored horizontally in comparison to the archive footage and cuts off just before Ms Price comes into view.
There is no suggestion the footage was manipulated to avoid copyright detection rather than for artistic reasons.
As the trailer plays out, Harry alludes to the death of his mother Diana, for which he has repeatedly blamed press intrusion, saying: ‘I was terrified. I didn’t want history to repeat itself.’
It’s the latest in a string of revelations that images used to tease the show weren’t quite what they seemed.
The same trailer released on Monday also includes footage of photographers crowding a cracked-open limousine door which was shot at an equally unrelated scene in the US.
The clip was taken from archive video of Donald Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen leaving his New York apartment for prison after he was jailed for tax fraud and lying about campaign finances.
In the Netflix trailer, it is played immediately after a shot of the Sussexes nervously looking out of a vehicle.
The first teaser, released last week, also includes a shot of photographers massed against a metal barrier taken at a Harry Potter premiere years before they met – and which no royals attended.
The 59-second clip also saw the couple lament their strained relationship with the press over a pictures of their life as a couple and images of papparazzi.
Feverish speculation over what the show could reveal has been increasingly overshadowed by controversy over the use of the images.
One senior royal journalist accused the team behind the film of ‘misusing’ other images, including one picture of the Sussexes carrying their child at a distance.
Robert Jobson, royal editor of the Evening Standard, said the ‘photograph used by Netflix and Harry and Meghan to suggest intrusion by the press is a complete travesty’.
He tweeted: ‘It was taken from a accredited pool at Archbishop Tutu’s residence in Cape Town. Only 3 people were in the accredited position. H & M agreed the position. I was there.
He later added: ‘We were covering an official visit where they had taxpayer funded protection and all the trappings. This is just nonsense. The palace was not part of some “set up”. No conspiracy here, just lies, and misuse of photos taken from pools.’
The first episode of the documentary, titled Harry & Meghan: A Global Event, will be released via Netflix on December 8.
Representatives of Harry and Meghan have been approached for comment. Netflix could not be reached for comment.
