I escaped from my abusive ex but now he’s harassing me and our son

EX-TREME LENGTHS

DEAR DEIDRE: I SPLIT up with my ex-partner because he was abusive and now he is harassing me.

We were together for eight years and have a six-year-old son. I am 34, he is 38.

He has a drink problem and was violent and controlling. He called me terrible names and didn’t allow me to see family or friends.

I frequently had to clean up his vomit and urine. I left with my son and we are living with my brother.

My son says he is scared of his father and he does not want to see or speak to him but my ex will not leave us alone.

One day last week I had 75 missed calls from him.

DEIDRE SAYS: Your ex is a dangerous man. It is vital that you protect yourself and your son from him.

Don’t allow him contact unless he has stopped drinking for some time and learned to control his abusive behaviour.

Keep a diary of everything that happens and report your ex’s behaviour to the police. Make sure they understand how volatile he is.

You can get further advice from the National Stalking Helpline (stalkinghelpline.org, 0808 802 0300).
