Mysterious lights, which some believe may be aliens and others say could be Santa Claus, have been looming in the sky over Kent for the past two days.

Grant Brendan filmed the eerie illumination that resembled a flying saucer as it moved silently forwards and backwards in the sky near his home in Ramsgate.

He told Kent Live : "They've been there for the past couple of nights. It's not over the sea but you could probably see it from the seafront.

"We first saw it last night on the way back from Sandwich at about seven or eight o'clock.

"It's weird it keeps going backwards and forwards in one spot," he continued. "Hopefully someone knows."

Asked what he thought it was Grant joked: "lt's either aliens or Santa. One person's already decided it's Father Christmas!"

There has been some speculation that the UFO could merely be a drone, a helicopter, or beams of light being projected from the ground.

But some believe that the British skies play host to extra terrestrial life forms who fly through in alien spacecraft.

The earliest reported sighting of UFOs dates back to the 12th century when religious pilgrims in southwest England reported seeing a glowing fire-belching "dragon" emerge from the sea, flying into the air, and disappearing into the sky.

In more recent times, sightings are often caught on camera, and Kent is a popular destination for UFOs according to the Kent Unidentified Flying Objects Research Group which claims that the coastlines around East Kent and South Kent are major UFO areas.

In February, Kent made the headlines again for possibly hosting alien life when a group of six mysterious lights were seen hovering in the sky for half an hour over Hythe and Folkestone.

The Ministry of Defence, which runs training ranges nearby, denied any involvement with the strange airborne apparitions and their origin remains unknown.
