Atletico Madrid are set to watch Josip Juranovic when Croatia take on World Cup favourites Brazil on Friday.
The Celtic full back has been attracting interest from clubs across Europe after a stellar 18 months in green and white. The likes of Manchester United have been linked with the right back in recent months, although the Old Trafford outfit are now thought to be keen on former Hoop Jeremie Frimpong, currently with Bayer Leverkusen after his £11million switch from Parkhead.
Juranovic will be tasked with shackling Neymar and co. in Qatar as the samba stars look to eliminate Luka Modric’s side from the tournament and book their spot in the last four. And the Scottish Sun reports that Aleti will have scouts reporting back on how Juranovic fares as they step up their bid to try and sign him. Ange Postecoglou is bracing himself for January offers for the former Legia Warsaw defender.
Canada international Alistair Johnston has been signed as a long-term replacement and will battle it out with Anthony Ralston for the right back berth if and when Juranovic does move on. Johnston took on his new Celtic teammate in the group stages, with the North American nation going down 4-1 to Croatia despite taking the lead after just two minutes.
La Liga rivals Real Sociedad have also joined the chase. Juranovic joined Celtic the summer before last in a £2million switch from Poland, but suitors will have to fork out much more than that to land the 27-year-old, who’s contract at Parkhead runs until 2026.
