A major city centre road has been closed following a crash.

Hardman Street is blocked off after a collision at the road's junction with Rodney Street

The incident has led to travel operator Merseytravel warning that bus services to and from south Liverpool are currently being diverted.

The 75, 80, 80A, 86 and 86C routes will be subject to "delays and diversions", the organisation said.

ECHO reporter Jonathan Humphries is at the scene of the crash.

He writes: “The crash is between a silver Delta private hire cab and a blue Ford Focus, at the junction between Hardman Street and Rodney Street. Hardman Street is closed on one side from the Rodney Street junction eastbound out of the city centre.

“One ambulance remains on scene but the occupants of both vehicles are either inside or have been taken to hospital.”

Hardman Street cuts through Rodney Street, so the traffic is being diverted along the other side of Rodney Street towards Upper Parliament Street.

Although these details are yet to be confirmed, Jonathan reports that it looks as though the Delta tried to turn right from Rodney Street and collided head on with the Focus.

Rodney Street is busy on a weekend and pictures of the crash are being circulated on social media.
