Man pulls gun on terrified family after game of Monopoly gets wildly out of hand

A man pulled out a gun on his terrified family after a game of Monopoly got out of hand.

John Ronald Dewayne Armstrong, from Oklahoma, was arrested in Tulsa on November 26 after a family board game evening erupted into violence.

Armstrong, who had been drinking alcohol during the night, allegedly flipped up the Monopoly board in anger before chasing his stepsister and stepfather down the street with a gun.

Tulsa Police Department received a call at around 6.30pm on Saturday to a home near East Admiral Place and North Mingo Road after reports of gun shot being fired in the street.

Officers arriving at the scene were told the suspect had been drinking when an argument with his stepfather broke out.

The concerned stepsister, who called 911, told officers Armstrong was her stepbrother who was chasing them down the street.

During the terrifying argument, furniture was launched into the air, along with the Monopoly board, as Armstrong suffered a gash on his head after pulling out his gun.

Tulsa Police Department Officer Danny Bean said: "It escalated quickly from family game night to furniture being turned over and game pieces all over the floor."

The family were playing the board game when an argument broke out between the stepson and stepfather as the pair were told to take their issues outside.

The stepsister followed and Armstrong allegedly chased them down the street, which is when he pulled out the gun and pointed it at them.

He fired a "single shot" to the ground in anger, according to police.

Mr Bean added: "He said he was aiming for the ground when he shot at them. But we came close to having a homicide over a game of Monopoly."

Police are still investigating what started the argument as the incident could have resulted in a terrible tragedy.

The officer said: "We don't know if it was about game pieces, play money, real money, but something set him off."

Armstrong was immediately arrested by cops when they arrived at the scene.

Mr Bean revealed: "'There are no get out of jail free cards in life, and we put the cuffs on him and took him to jail.

"'When he pulled the trigger that's when family game night turned into a felony."

He was booked into Tulsa County jail on one count of assault with a deadly weapon.

Armstrong's bond was set at $25,000 (£21,000) but has since been released on bail.

He is due back in court on December 2.
