Man Utd missed out on Jude Bellingham transfer as club weren’t prepared to match Dortmund’s £56,000-a-week wages

MANCHESTER UNITED reportedly missed out on landing Jude Bellingham as they weren't prepared to match Borussia Dortmund's £56k-a-week wages.

The 17-year-old arrived at BVB from Birmingham for £23million on a five-year contract.

The Red Devils had reportedly offered over £30million for the teenage star, amid interest from Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Bayern Munich.

But as reported by ESPN, Old Trafford bowed out as they could not match Dortmund's £56k-a-week wages.

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had faith that Bellingham would shine in United's first team and go onto make at least 20 first-team appearances.

But United's owners, the Glazer family, and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward were put off given that Bellingham has tasted just one season of professional football.

Woodward had previously admitted that the club would splash out with "extra caution in the coming months" due to the financial hit from coronavirus.

England attacker Jadon Sancho is thought to top Solskjaer's wishlist, having recently been pictured in training with Bellingham.

But Dortmund have reportedly told United they would accept nothing less than £80million for the 20-year-old.

Aston Villa skipper Jack Grealish is still being strongly linked with Old Trafford.

And Solskjaer is also keen for major investment in his central defence amid concern over Harry Maguire's partnership with Victor Lindelof.

United have been linked with Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly and now Bournemouth ace Nathan Ake.
