The country's biggest fast food chain is to launch a new triple cheeseburger at 60 branches across the UK.

McDonald's said the new triple patty cheeseburger launches on Thursday - and will form part of a trial before being rolled out across all restaurants nationwide.

It's part of ongoing plans to shake-up its menu options - including a new Grand Big Mac later in the year.

If the triple cheeseburger proves a hit, it could be rolled out to all 1,249 branches across the UK.

Customers will be able to pick one up at any of the below branches from Thursday, February 27. It will cost £2.39 - which is slightly pricier than the double cheeseburger, which costs £1.69.

The burger features three slices of meat, three slices of cheese, the iconic dressing, sauce and the usual bun.

It was last tried on UK menus in 1994 for the World Cup, when it was called the Hat Trick.

According to McDonalds the 520 calorie burger: "Is made with three 100 per cent pure beef patties with absolutely no fillers, additives or preservatives, simply seasoned with a pinch of salt and pepper and topped with tangy pickles, chopped onions, ketchup, mustard and two slices of melty American cheese."
