At just 4 ft 11 inches tall Amie John was a size 16.
So embarrassed by her weight, she would cut the labels out of her clothes so her future husband couldn’t see her true dress size.
Realising she had to change her lifestyle, the 36-year-old decided to join Slimming World.
It was then pocket rocket Amie ditched the takeaways with sugary drinks and swapped them for lean meats, fruit, veg and ‘sin free’ recipes to slim down to a size 10.
And she says she felt like a "princess" when she tied the knot in Cyprus with husband Owen, 47.
“I felt amazing, I felt like a princess on my wedding day,” said Amie, of Pelton Fell, Chester-le-Street, County Durham.
“The pictures are of us on the beach, with the sunset behind us and it was a beautiful day. I felt wonderful in my dress and Owen said I looked radiant.”
Amie got her light bulb moment on New Year’s Eve 2016. She decided to go to her first Slimming World class on December 31 and changed her eating habits.
“I was a size 16 and, at only 4ft 11 inches, I was embarrassed at how I looked. I hated getting my picture taken, I would hide behind my kids and just have my head popping out.
“But joining Slimming World was the best thing I ever did. I lost 2 stone, and that might not sound a lot to others, but for me being only 4ft 11 inches, it is a lot. It makes a huge difference.”
Amie, who has three children; Ben, nine, Evie, seven, and Alex, three, jetted off to Protaras in Cyprus with her family to get married in the Sunrise Beach Hotel.
“There were only 15 of us, but it was intimate and made our wedding day very special,” added Amie, who works in child care and is a special educational needs coordinator.
“I have been going to Protaras for around 25 years with my family so it is a place that means a lot to me and it was a very special wedding. I never used to put pictures of me up in my house but I have a canvas on my wall of us on our wedding day and it looks lovely. I’m not embarrassed any more and I feel great.”
She added: “I used to feel tired and sluggish and found it difficult to carry Alex upstairs. I had no self confidence and hid behind a smile.
“Now I’m much healthier for Owen and my three children.”
Amie now enjoys healthy eating and enjoys cooking for the family.
Amie added: “I loved takeaways, especially curries and Chinese and would drink Lucozade, which is full of sugar.
“Now I eat lean meat, fruit and vegetables and follow the Slimming World recipes, which are so tasty. I can make my own curries that are healthy and even a McDonald’s McMuffin, which is only three-and-a-half sins where the real one is 21 sins, which is over my daily allowance. The kids love them and everyone can eat the things I make - but they are all healthy.”
Amie is so delighted with her achievement that she is now planning on becoming a Slimming World consultant.
She launches her group at St Chad’s Church in Bensham, Gateshead, on July 31, holding classes each week on Wednesdays at 5.30pm.
She says she owes her weight loss down to the support of her fellow slimmers and Slimming World consultant Hilary Riley, who runs classes at Gateshead Leisure Centre.
"The support you get in class is fantastic. I still go to keep me on track," said Amie.
