A local dad has charged his way into the Guinness World Record Books.

Freddie Bennett, who lives in south Liverpool, now holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest marathon run dressed as a fisherman.

Freddie took part in Liverpool’s Rock n Roll marathon in May.

For the event he wore rubber wellies, yellow waterproofs and did it all the while carrying a fishing box.

Mr Bennett said: “I’m now officially the fastest fisherman in the world.”

The management consultant broke the record by eight minutes.

His exploits made the new world record four hours and 37 minutes.

Pavilion Preschool is currently operating out of a portakabin.

They are trying to raise £250,000 to build a better centre; a place to give training to young people, to support new mothers and to provide after school care.

Mr Bennett told the ECHO: “They do a lot with the space, but sometimes the roof leaks.”

For taking part in the marathon, Mr Bennett raised £1200 which is, incredibly, £200 more than his target.

As for what’s next, Mr Bennett is doing a 200 mile race across the frozen Antarctic next year. He said: “In terms of doing all of these challenges; it’s about trying to inspire children.”
