Meghan urged to ‘have respect’ and 'do some reading’ as she was unprepared to meet Queen

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's bombshell Netflix documentary has led to several royal revelations, including the Duchess of Sussex admitting she was totally unprepared for the first time she met the late Queen Elizabeth.

The Duke of Sussex had sprung the meeting on her moments before, with Meghan telling interviewers it was "so surreal" and "I didn't know what I was doing".

But the bombshell admission has led to criticism for the controversial princess, with royal expert Kinsey Schofield telling the Daily Star she should have had "some respect for the institution" by doing some "light reading" in advance.

The commentator and To Di For Daily podcast host said the segment in the documentary, that showed Meghan acting out the moment she met the Queen with a slow bow as a stone-faced Harry watches on, was "particularly contrived and uncomfortable".

During the royal revelation, exposed in the second episode of the six-part series, Meghan adds of the moment she met the Queen: "It was surreal, there wasn’t a big moment of, 'now you're going to meet my grandmother,' I didn’t know I was going to meet her until moments before.

"We were in the car and going to the Royal Lodge for lunch and (Harry's) like, 'oh my grandmother is going to be here after church,' and he said, 'you know how to curtsy right?' and I just thought it was a joke."

The honest interview with the Netflix producers is far from the first time the royal duo has hit the headlines for their open chats.

Harry and Meghan – parents to Archie and Lilibet – have taken part in a number of high profile interviews, including a bombshell sit-down with US talk show host Oprah Winfrey in 2021.

More recently, Meghan’s interview with The Cut hit the headlines as the former actress said it takes “a lot of effort” to forgive and hinted that she can “say anything”.
