Oldest Welsh man whose motto is 'Let's have fun' dies at 106

The World War II veteran who became Wales' oldest man died peacefully at the age of 106 after a "good life".

Jeffrey Patrick was often asked what the secret to his longevity was. have fun, avoid arguments, and don't eat junk food.

Geoffrey grew up in Yorkshire under "pervasive poverty and great hardship".

He spent most of his childhood in his father's workshop, who was his undertaker.

"I remember my father building coffins. I remember his father building and polishing coffins," Jeffrey said.

This was how Jeffrey acquired his craft as a joiner. He took up this job after returning home from the war.

During Jeffrey's service, he survived the Battle of Cassino at Montehi, Italy, where 55,000 of his soldiers died.

Upon his return home, he moved with his wife Jean to Wrexham, North Wales. The couple celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary this year.

Jeffrey believed that the secret to his healthy life was "being active, working hard and eating four good meals a day."

He said: "I have learned to always be cheerful and friendly to people. I have learned not to get into arguments because they go nowhere. His niece Joanna said guests always left the house smiling and laughing.

Local Councilman Rob Walsh said: Jeff was a great man and a great supporter, not only for our community, but for the country as a whole.

"He was proud to be the oldest man in Wales. He loved life and had a great sense of humor." Very sad news, but it's safe to say I had a good life.'
