Parents want Dick Turpin's ride renamed because the dungeon is 'offensive'

This is because The York Dungeon's boss ignored his parents' calls to change his Turpin ride to the new Dick's Richard his Turpin. Because they are offended by the word "dick".

The owner has received "many requests to change the character's name to Richard due to the apparent disrespectful nature of his nickname."

Owned by leisure giant Merlin, this ride tells the story of his infamous 18th-century criminal Dick Turpin.

As part of this new ride, parents and children sit in a darkened carriage and listen to terrifying tales of robberies before being ordered by their virtual Turpin to 'stand and deliver'.

Turpin was executed at York in 1739 for many crimes, including burglary, horse thief and murder.

Mark Mattinson, General Manager of The York Dungeon, said:

"This character is one of our most feared foes, and we know how much our guests enjoy interacting with him and other rogues and villains throughout our show.

"Our Dick's Carriage Ride is the grand finale of our York Dungeon Tour, and thousands of guests have already enjoyed this thrilling end to their visit.
