A PILOT was killed today after the glider plane he was flying crashed into a field in Sussex.
Emergency services raced to the tragedy near Hurston Lane in Storrington, West Sussex, shortly before 11am.
The glider could be seen tilted on its side in the grass as paramedics battled to save the man.
Cops later confirmed he died at the scene.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “A man who was both the pilot and sole occupant of the glider, sustained serious injuries.
“Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of paramedics and colleagues from the Air Ambulance service, he sadly died at the scene."
The age of the pilot has not yet been confirmed.
Cops said the coroner has been told.
The spokesman added: “Officers remain at the scene while initial enquiries continue.”
