Not even six goals without reply against San Marino at sodden Hampden was enough to get Scotland fans back believing in brighter days ahead.

Steve Clarke's side may have rattled the goals past the world's worst team but there's weren't many of the Tartan Army singing their praises.

But we'll start with domestic action and Lance Little, Erskine, said: “To all those deluded Rangers fans who think the league is now theirs, with the treble to follow, I will predict this. Before the next game against Celtic will have won the Betfred Cup and be at least six points in front of them which will turn into nine after the 90 mins on 29th December.

“I have never seen such a group of people fall flat on their faces on a regular basis every season. It'll be the same this time too.”

Onto Scotland now after the 6-0 win and Craig Weir, Port Glasgow, said: "Even though we hammered San Marino, they are a glorified amateur side so nothing can be learned from the game. John McGinn showed his quality with a hat-trick but nobody will be fooled into thinking a corner has been turned. Lawrence Shankland also enhanced his chances of staying in the squad but the real tests against Cyprus and Kazakhstan will be the time to judge players."

James Muldoon, Bishopbriggs, said: "It was good to see Scotland score a few goals but it was a lose-lose situation for Clarke.

"San Marino were rank rotten and the heavy rain made the conditions horrendous but it's the fans who forked out good money to stand in the pouring rain who should be applauded."

Ian McCaffrey, Glasgow, said: "You've got to admire the hardcore Scotland fans who filed into Hampden to watch a pub team against San Marino. The SFA need to come out and tell us why they didn't have reduced ticket prices for what was effectively a non-event.

"Well done Scotland for winning emphatically and with a bit of style but the opposition would struggle in Scotland's League Two."

John Allardyce, Edinburgh, said: “Does anybody believe Clarke. He says he can turn things around, but where's the proof? He can beat the worst team on the planet San Marino but that's it. Clarke is kidding himself on as Scotland are rock bottom.”

Brian Stavert, Dumbarton, said: “What a total embarrassment that Scottish football team are, some of them didn’t sing the national anthem and the rest didn’t know the words, they should take a leaf out of the rugby side's book, total embarrassment. “

Dougie Allison, Fauldhouse, said: “I see some guys are asking for Gordon Strachan to be brought back but remember he had two tournaments he did not qualify for, I have been in the Tartan Army for over 45 years had more downs than ups. I feel we should give Clarke a chance after all we have tried non-Scottish managers and enough said about that. The main issue is the men in charge, they are not football people so let’s get behind the team to give them confidence for the play-offs.”

Jim McClean, Rothesay, said: “Come back to Killie Steve, all is forgiven , I said at the time it was the wrong move, to try and get results with the dross he has at is disposal was never going to work so don’t blame the organ grinder this time, I blame the monkey.”

Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus, said: “It amazes me when I read the Scottish media concerning the international football side.

"Clarke's is building from scratch so give the guy time. Michael O’Neil did the smart thing by turning Scotland down.”

Kenny Bryce, emailed: “Andy Murray has undergone a major operation and come back to compete against the world's best. Add to that his fight, his passion and attitude that makes him a stand out. Andy, can you not swap sports mate and play for our national football team. Our players should watch this guy and learn.”

Cameron Bruce, emailed: "The SFA don't care about the fans or anyone else but themselves. Surely they should have let fans into Hampen to see the San Marino game for free. They have done nothing for our game and they should all just go.

"We could bring in people who know about football and have passion for our game."
