'Southampton fan' Rishi Sunak makes embarrassing football gaffe during leadership speech

Conversational Leader Candidate Rishi Sunak scored an own goal while discussing support forSouthampton.

Sunak was born in a city on the south coast and previously described himself as "his avid football fan" and claimed Matt Le Tissier to be his favorite player.

His father Yashvir had his ticket for the season to watch the Saints. Sunak says he was given a card signed by the entire team on his 18th birthday, making him "one of his most prized possessions."

Southampton's entitlement as a fan was put under the microscope during the Husting at Manchester. Asked how he could put the Saints back on a winning streak after a dismal form that stretches back to last season, he said: "We're going to lose popularity by saying here, starting with beating (Manchester) United this weekend." Answered.

Southampton are indeed preparing to face Leicester City instead of United at 3:00 pm on Saturday, but they will not play next weekend in August. On the 27th, they will face Eric Ten Hag's team. While unlikely to affect Sunak's chances of becoming the next Prime Minister, this would be the latest entry in the book of politicians stumbling upon supposed football fans.

Back in April 2015, David Cameron famously forgot that he was an Aston Villa supporter, not West Ham. Admiring the multicultural and diverse nature of Britain, he said: He can be Welsh, Hindu, English, Northern Irish, Jew, or English, and he can wear a kilt and a turban, and a poppy-covered hijab. You can also attach it to rt Man United, Windies and Team GB at the same time. Of course, I want you to support West Ham.”

Cameron later said it was a simple mistake – not evidence of pretending to support Villa. "I had what I described as degeneration," he explained. Things happen sometimes when you're in the stumps."

Former prime minister, when he was 13 It is said that he fell in love with Villa after being taken to his first match by his ex-uncle. - Sir William Dugdale, Chairman of the Villa. He has also staged a photo opportunity of him jogging in Hyde's Park, wearing a Villa shirt with "10 Cameron" on it.

In his Sunak biography called "Going For Broke: The Rise of Rishi Sunak" by Michael Ashcroft, the "worst thing" he did while at the University of Winchester was "turning on a portable television. It was smuggling," he claims. He enrolled in school so that he would not miss any important Euro 96 matches.

Ashcroft also added: Going forward, Sunak will carefully examine his list of Southampton fixtures in case there are any further questions on the subject.
