Stroke Ruined My Partner's Life - And Mine Too, I Want To Leave

Felt Confinement

Dear DEIDRE: I don't want to be with my partner anymore because he had a stroke.

He used to be fun, kind, kind and confident, but all that has changed.

I am he 51 and my partner he is 56.

He cannot speak fluently, so we cannot discuss anything.

We haven't had sex since his stroke last year.

If we break up, he will have to go to sheltered accommodation and is unlikely to see anyone else.

Neither am I guaranteed.

His stroke destroyed both our lives.

My chances of improving my life are slim, but it will come at the cost of his happiness.

I am so emotionally torn right now and feel guilty even writing these feelings down.

But I really feel trapped.

DEIDRE says:  You have been through a very difficult time, but I hope you are feeling free emotionally. I can understand that.

His stroke will be as life-changing for you as it is for him, and it will take a toll on your relationship.

It is natural to fear the effects of his stroke, but he may still recover.

Before making a life-changing decision, you need your own support.
