Sweet reason Harry Kane wears a bandage on his left hand during World Cup games

The unusual traditions that football players take part in on the pitch have always fascinated fans. Some eagle-eyed viewers recently discovered that Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham always cut holes in their socks for the practical reason of relieving pressure in their calves, for example.

Fans have also spotted that during the World Cup games, England captain Harry Kane has been wearing a white bandage on his left finger – but there's a more sentimental reason.

One social media user pointed out: "For a while I wondered – what's wrong with Harry Kane's finger? He always has a white bandage on one finger."

However, the fan then spotted that he "kisses it when he celebrates" and soon realised what it was - Harry straps a bandage over his wedding ring during matches.

The fan continued: "It's his ring finger. Can't wear rings when you play so he does that instead, every game".

The footballer is known to kiss his wedding ring every time he scores a goal, which is no doubt a nod to his wife and childhood sweetheart Kate Kane.

One fan previously took to Twitter to say: "Still melts my heart that Harry Kane kisses his wedding ring every time he scores."

Another added: "Harry Kane always kisses his wedding ring. Cute."

Harry will no doubt be strapping up his wedding ring to avoid it being damaged during the game.

Players can also be asked to remove any jewellery that doesn't comply with regulations, so taping it up will avoid unneeded stoppage time in the game.

Greek national Kostas Tsimikas has been known to wear a similar bandage around his wrist, which some fans suspect is either superstition, or to protect a bracelet.

Kate is supporting Harry with alongside kids in Doha, with the mum recently posting a sweet snap outside the stadium.

After the Lions thrashed Iran, Kate also posted an emotional reunion photo of the family from inside the stadium. Their adorable two daughters and their mum can be seen wearing Kane football tops.

Although the Tottenham striker hasn't scored yet during the World Cup 2022, he has still had reason to celebrate during England's 6-2 win against Iran, 3-0 win over Wales, and slightly less exciting draw with USA.

And England fans will be hoping that Kane will lead the Three Lions to victory in their match against Senegal on Sunday, December 4.
