Alex Smithies 8

His best game in a Cardiff City shirt. Made a superb save before the first goal, which he could do nothing about, and was strong and commanding in the box.

Lee Peltier 6

Another solid and steady game for the right-back. Booked for a professional foul on Tom Lawrence, which had to be made.

Sean Morrison 7

Calm, loud, assured and made himself a nuisance in the opposition box after handing over throwing duties to Paterson.

Aden Flint 6

Dominant in the air and helped Morrison keep their bright attackers at bay for large parts of the night.

Joe Bennett 5

As always, a useful outlet in attack. But between him and Murphy, the left-hand side often looks far too exposed and was beaten on a couple of occasions.

Leandro Bacuna 8 (Star man)

Considering the week he's had - his Curacao team-mate passing away and travel issues - he turned out a superb performance. Physical, abrasive, just what Cardiff needed.

Joe Ralls 6

Given his performances so far this season, a relatively quiet evening for the midfielder. Still steady as ever, though.

Callum Paterson 5

Cardiff often lumped the ball up to him and he tried his utmost. But things just didn't fall his way and he missed a couple of chances.

Josh Murphy 5

Just wasn't quite his night. He tried all the tricks in his books but just wasn't to be this time.

Gavin Whyte 6

Divides opinion but proved an incredibly useful outlet at times and worked doggedly in defence, intercepting on more than one occasion.

Robert Glatzel 7

Snatched at an early chance, but finally has that monkey off his back after slotting home the penalty. Also won the spot kick, too.

SUBS

Junior Hoilett (on for Murphy 60') 6

Not 100 per cent at the races, which was understandable given his off-field family issues this week.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing (on for Whyte 60') 6

Looked relatively sharp when he was introduced. Carved out one opportunity and had another of his own blocked.

Omar Bogle (on for Glatzel 81') 5

Barely touched the ball when he was on and failed to make an impact.
