Police have arrested two teenagers in connection with two separate rapes that occurred just hours apart in Orkney. Officers received a report Saturday, August 13, that a woman had been the victim of a serious sexual assault in St Her Magnus LaneKirkwall. Restrooms were temporarily closed on Tuesday to allow for an ongoing investigation. Scottish Policeconfirmed that an 18-year-old man had been arrested in connection but was released pending further investigation. Early in the morning we received another report of another woman being raped in the Madisdale Lawn section of town. A 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection with this but released pending further investigation.
Police confirmed that the two rapes were not considered related.
Inspector David Hall said:
"Anyone with information or concerns should call 101 or contact a police officer patrolling the area."
