West Lothian Archer Wins Gold and Bronze at European Para-Archery Championships

Addiewell's Nathan Macqueen is looking for more success after winning gold at the European Para Archery Championships.

The two-time Paralympic star teamed with Jess Stretton to win gold at a mixed-team facility in Rome.

She won a bronze medal in men's combined doubles with Jamie Harris, her second medal.

After a disappointing performance at the Tokyo Paralympics, it was a great and frustrating time to miss out on the World Championships after testing positive for COVID-19 just before the Games started. It was over.

In an interview with Courier, he admitted that he was relieved to know he could still combine it with the best players on the international stage, and that he would be able to maintain his recent status for 2023.

He said, "It's been a really tough season for me, so it's nice to finish with a really positive experience.

"I contracted COVID-19 the day before the World Championships and it took me some time to recover mentally and physically. That. It took me a while to regroup properly.

"The last competition shoot was at the Tokyo Paralympics, so I was definitely more nervous than usual because of the length of the shoot.

"I used to tell myself that I was just going there for the experience, enjoying filming at international competitions again and trying to take the pressure off and downplay it, but in reality

"As soon as you enter the environment and compete, that desire takes over and you want to do your best and win a medal.

"I felt really good in practice and training, so I knew what I was capable of. It will lead to a championship.”

He added:

"The last time I went was in Tokyo, and I was pretty disappointed with the results, so it was a really special experience to team up and win the gold medal."

40} 2022 is now over, but McQueen is determined to ride on the winning streak when the competition returns next year.

He commented: The goal is to maintain that high level and carry it into the next season.

"This is a bit of a tipping point after a really difficult few months.

" I'm going to look at it more or less like the competition next season and run out of that height and momentum when we go again.
