It was a golden event for Foldhouse boxer Reese Lynch. The Commonwealth Champion claims there is more to come.
The 21-year-old won his light welterweight gold medal at the Commonwealth Games by defeating Mauritius' Ricarno his Colin in the final in Birmingham.
His two rounds in the comfortable first gave way to moments of anxiety after suffering a cut above his eye, but in anticipation of the rest of the bout, he took the top spot on the podium. I was able to secure it.
West He wasn't the only southpaw to be a Lothian athlete to take home a medal. Shannon Archer made her name in the history books by becoming the first Scottish woman to win an individual medal in gymnastics. Vault Bronze.
Livingstone swimmer Craig Benson also received a special bronze medal. Craig Benson helped her team reach the finals in her 4x100m medley relay, but she finished third and was not part of the team.
They contributed to the team her Scottish performance, winning 51 medals. This is the highest number ever achieved in a Commonwealth game outside of Scotland.
Lynch, one of her three gold-medal-winning boxers, was born in Scotland. He admitted it was a proud moment to see the flag fly. He said: 'It's great to see the flag raised. You want to see it because you know it's going to the top, number one country.
“I have said from the beginning that 3 is a record and this team has the potential to break it. knew we could accomplish great things.We are young, we have time, there is still more to come.”
In all, 10 West Lothian athletes represent Team Scotland. and gathered in Birmingham, all proud of the region.
Swimmers Emma Russell and Keyanna McInnes helped break national records and reach the final. So did Benson in the individual event.
West Lothian entered gymnastics alongside Archer. Archer finished sixth on the women's team in her event. West Lothian gymnastics boasts coaches John and Becky his Campbell, and young star Cameron Lynn, fifth in Scotland.
Sarah Inglis has two Top 10 finishes in the women's 5000m and 10,000m events at the Commonwealth Games Netball ace Rachel Conway and weightlifter Alice Aytchison got their first taste of the Commonwealth Games. won 4 out of
games.
West Lothian Provost Kathy Muldoon paid tribute to the athletes and coaches and said everyone at West Lothian was "extremely proud" of their achievements.
She commented:
"It was a great achievement to be at the Commonwealth Games and I am sure the wonderful memories will live on forever.
"Everyone in West Lothian I know we're very proud of what we've accomplished: Reese Lynch of Foldhouse winning some tough bouts to win a gold medal in boxing, Shannon of Uphaul. Archer becomes the first Scottish female athlete to win a bronze medal in gymnastics."
