West Lothian schoolgirl raises money for village garden of sensations

West Rosian schoolgirls want to inspire people to return to nature by creating a beautiful garden in the village.

Lucy Joseph, 15, is raising money for the sensory botanical area to benefit people in the Mid Calder and surrounding communities.

She wants to encourage wildlife in the area by planting herbs for people to choose and use in cooking, arts and crafts.

Lucy, who also volunteers at Armon del and Calderwood Country Park, explained that she wanted to create the first public sensory garden in West Lothian.

She continued. “As more and more developments are being built and fields and nature are being removed, I wish I could bring more nature into the community, so I would like to bring it back. Community.

"I believe that developing a sensory area will bring it to my community and bring people from not only Midcarder but also other communities.

"This project promotes the amount of wildlife and plant growth in our village and develops a nice sensory area for the community to enjoy."

To raise money for the garden, Barrno High School students overcame their fear of heights and crossed Force Road. Bridge raises over £ 200 in the process.

Revenue covers the cost of herbs and soil.

Lucy continued: "We are already using other community planters for flowers. Therefore, planting herbs will diversify them. Herbs are wildlife. It's great because it attracts and grows easily.

"Herbs can be used in crafts and are attractive Everyone can benefit from herbs because of its unique scent. ”

A craft fair will be held at the Midcarder Institute Hall from 1 pm to 4 pm on Saturday, August 20th. Then, a fund-raising activity will be held in Lucy's garden.
