What channel is Portugal vs Switzerland? Kick-off time, TV and live stream details

The last 16 of the 2022 World Cup reaches its conclusion on Tuesday as European duo Portugal and Switzerland go head-to-head for a place in the quarter-finals.

Portugal will aim to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat to South Korea in their final Group H fixture on Friday, although previous victories over Ghana and Uruguay helped to secure top spot in the group. As a result, a tricky tie against Switzerland in the last 16 awaits.

The A-Team secured their place in the knockout stages after a 3-2 victory over Serbia four days ago ensured they finished as runners-up behind Brazil in Group G. Now, they are hoping to avoid a third successive last 16 exit at the World Cup.

When is Portugal vs Switzerland?

Portugal vs Switzerland will kick-off at 7pm (GMT) on Tuesday, December 6 at the Lusail Iconic Stadium in Lusail, Qatar.

This will be the 26th meeting between the two sides and their second in World Cup competition, following a 2-1 group stage victory for Switzerland in 1938.

However, their last meeting came just under six months ago, when Haris Seferovic’s first minute goal secured a 1-0 victory for the Swiss in a Nations League Group A2 clash in Geneva.

Team news

Portugal have been hit with injuries to three players throughout the group stage and that saw Fernando Santos make six changes for the 2-1 defeat to South Korea. However, he could be forced to stick with a similar side as the Euro 2016 winners prepare to face Switzerland.

PSG left back Nuno Mendes (thigh) is now completely ruled out, with Raphael Guerreiro ready to come back into the side. Pepe is expected to continue at centre back ahead of Danilo Pereira (chest), while Otavio (muscular) remains a doubt in midfield. As a result, William Carvalho will battle Matheus Nunes and Vitinha for a starting spot.

Things appear much better for Switzerland and they will hope to take advantage of Portugal's injury issues with a full strength side of their own. Murat Yakin’s side have already beaten them once this year and will be looking for a repeat of that June triumph.

RB Salzburg’s Noah Okafor (thigh) remains a doubt in what is their only fitness issue, but Xherdan Shaqiri and Ruben Vargas should continue on either side of Breel Embolo nonetheless. Yann Sommer will return between the sticks, while Nico Elvedi will aim to reclaim his spot at centre back from Fabian Schar.
