What is the Pomodoro Technique?

TIME management is often hard for many American's as they feel like there are not enough hours in the day.

The Pomodoro Technique is meant to counteract this and help people utilize their time more efficiently.

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

Founded by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s, the Pomodoro Technique is known as a time management method that involves using a timer to break work into intervals.

Rather than working against time, the technique helps people work with time by breaking up a workday into 25-minute sections that include five-minute breaks.

After doing these "pomodoros" four times, it is then recommended to take a longer 15 to 20-minute break.

"Work smarter, not harder," Cirillo's website states.

What are the benefits of the Pomodoro Technique?

According to Cirillo's website, those who use the Pomodoro Technique will experience a better workday and be more productive.

The technique will reportedly help users feel less pressure and be able to meet deadlines without time pressure which ultimately increases "motivation, the precision of the estimates and the probability of final success."

It is also reportedly meant to help reduce the complexity of goals and optimize the interaction between team members.

Who is Francesco Cirillo?

Cirillo is known as a LUISS Guido Carli University graduate who famously invented the Pomodoro Technique.

Prior to this, the Italian native worked as a senior consultant, mentor, and instructor at Sun Microsystems in Rome, according to his LinkedIn profile.

In September 1994, he also famously founded the Cirillo Consulting publishing house and store which focuses "on literature to boost individual/ team productivity levels."

"I believe what makes me unique is my combination of IT knowledge/experience with a dedication to effective leadership and 360° understanding of how IT serves the business," Cirillo states in his bio.

"There are few experts in Agile/XP/Lean/software development/design—and fewer that have run multiple, highly successful consulting firms for 20+ years."

Outside of his occupations, not much information is available on Cirillo.
