Giovanni van Bronckhorst told Cammy Devlin he’s much better than his shocking tackle that resulted in a straight red card as Rangers thumped Hearts at Tynecastle.
The men in maroon were trailing to an Antonio Colak double when midfielder Devlin was shown a straight red card by referee Steven McLean for a crude challenge on Rabbi Matondo. Matondo was in a tussle with Alex Cochrane when Australian Devlin went right through the back of the Welsh international’s ankle.
Substitute Alfredo Morelos added a third and Ryan Kent completed the rout with a fourth goal against the Jambos. Van Bronckhorst's reaction to Devlin's tackle was one of fury at the time and he could be seen talking to the midfielder as he made his way off.
The Dutchman said after the game: “Rabbi was in duel with his opponent when Devlin came as a third man and he didn't expect him. I really like him (Devlin) as a player and I told him he doesn't need challenges like this. He's a far better player than to use those tackles."
