Will it snow where you live? Snow forecast for your area ahead of Arctic blast this week

Brits have been warned to brace for the possibility of snow this week as temperatures are set to plummet.

An extra-cold bite is predicted to set in this week as chilly easterly winds shift north, with temperatures to dip as low as -8C and up to 10cm of snow expected in parts of Scotland.

The mercury had already dipped as far as -3.8C near Inverness on Saturday night, and experts said the coming cold snap could last as long as a week.

Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said: "At the moment we have an easterly flow and as such our winds are coming from the east and that is a cold direction, and it is cold out.

"However, from Tuesday onwards we are going to get a northerly flow, so our winds coming from the north, that is Arctic air leading to our temperatures dropping even further as we go through this week."

The weather could cause major disruption to travel plans, with the Met Office putting a yellow warning in place for snow on Wednesday.

Most of the snow is forecast for northern Scotland, although if you're in high and mountainous regions, such as the Lake District, there's also a small chance of some wintry weather.

Here is a region-by-region forecast for this week, including where you can expect to see a sprinkling of snow.

London & the South East

Temperatures across the southeast will become increasingly chilly over the coming days, although it will remain largely dry. Wednesday to Friday in particular will be very cold, with lows of -2C overnight.

Areas around the coast are likely to see showers later today and tomorrow, the Met Office said.

Overnight frost is likely for the coming week, which may result in some disruption on the roads, but no forecast for any snow.

More cold weather is on the way if you're in the southwest, although forecasters predict it will stay mainly dry with a chance of a few showers for west Cornwall.

Temperatures will peak at 7-8C today and tomorrow, and Wednesday to Friday will feel particularly wintry and frosty - but no snow.

Despite the cold, the Met Office predicts skies to remain clear and with sunny intervals.

West Midlands

It's a rather gloomy start to the week if you're in the West Midlands. Tuesday looks much brighter, however, with plenty of sunny spells and light winds.

Temperatures will peak at around 7C between today and Wednesday, before becoming increasingly cold with overnight frosts. No snow is forecast yet for the West Midlands.

East Anglia & The Midlands

It's going to be cold and cloudy in the East this week. Temperatures today will peak at 7C before plummeting to zero overnight, so expect to de-ice your cars in the morning.

Showers are expected across the northern and eastern coasts. Tuesday and Wednesday will be extremely cold overnight, with 'wintry showers' over the following two days and widespread frost, although no forecast for snow.

Yorkshire & the North East

It's getting cold the further north you go this week. Rainfall is expected today and tomorrow with very cold weather in the latter half of the week - although no mention of snow.

Temperatures across the region will be a little over freezing during the day from Wednesday.

North West

Some typical Manchester-style weather is on the way over the coming days - grey skies and light showers with temperatures again reaching up to 7C.

Expect dry and sunny spells across the region on Wednesday to Friday. There's no forecast for any snow, apart from high and exposed mountainous parts of the Lake District where there is a chance of a sprinkling towards the end of the week.

The country's cold snap will be mirrored in Wales' weather too. Today and tomorrow will stay cloudy with light showers, before turning wintry in the second part of the week.
