A LOUISIANA couple have won a whopping $2 million after a Facebook post prompted them to search for an old lottery ticket.
Tammi and James Miller did not realize they were sitting on a winning Powerball ticket from the October 26 drawing, according to the Louisiana Lottery Corp.
One day, however, Tammi was scrolling through Facebook when she saw a post that said the Powerball winner was from the couple's hometown of Metairie.
This prompted Tammi to search for her old ticket, and once she had discovered the numbers matched, she excitedly gave it to her husband.
In disbelief, James then put on his glasses and took the ticket into another room for a closer examination.
Tammi told Louisiana Lottery officials: "I saw on Facebook that someone in Metairie won $2 million on Powerball.
"I didn’t think there was any way it could be my ticket though, so I took my time finding it."
The Millers had matched all five white-ball numbers during the drawing to win $1 million.
As they had also added the $1 Power Play option to their ticket, the prize was increased to $2 million.
After federal and state taxes, Tammi and James will take home $1.4 million.
The couple said they are "thrilled, happy and blessed" to have won and plan to put the money toward a "comfortable retirement."
There was joy for the seller of the ticket, too, as Superior Discount in Old Metairie received a $20,000 bonus from the lottery.
