Before 2015 We Couldn’t Hold Events At Eagle Square, We Were Hiding In The Villa – Fashola

In an interview with Channels TV, the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, gave his opinion on the pledge made during President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign to protect the lives and properties of the people of Nigeria.

In the aforementioned interview, Fashola was quoted as saying that President Buhari has been more proactive in addressing the nation’s numerous security concerns than his predecessor was. According to Fashola, before to the election of Buhari as president in 2015, residents of Abuja were reluctant to host activities at Eagle Square because of concerns regarding their safety; however, this is no longer the case. He acknowledged that there are still some security challenges in the country, but he said that Buhari’s administration never promised Nigerians a life free of security challenges. He said this to refute the claim that Buhari’s administration had made.

To paraphrase what Fashola said: “In terms of the level of security, in spite of everything that we have been had to endure, which is truly regrettable, there is a discernible difference, a genuine significant difference. I arrived in Abuja in 2015, but before we got there, before 2015, there were two things that were taking place: Nigeria was unable to hold any of its public events, ceremonial events, or October 1st event at Eagle Square. Before 2015, both of these things took place. We were keeping a low profile in the villa. All of the events that have taken place after Buhari demonstrate that this is not a vote for security.

“All of the major public facilities in Abuja, restaurants, bars, hotels, and restaurants, among other employment opportunities, were closed by seven and barricaded with sandbags. This resulted in residents losing their jobs. Everything has been turned around completely. I think over 240 of them have come back from denial, unfortunately, Leah Sharibu is still not recovered, but this is the difference. Now, before Buhari, there was a denial that no children were kidnapped from Chibok. Unfortunately, we haven’t gotten all of them back, but something has moved significantly.

“Now the problem is that new problems have arisen, but the difference between us and them is that we solved the problems they denied existed, and while they were hiding in the villa, we were out there confronting the problem. The current issue is that new problems have emerged, but the difference between us and them is that we solved the problems they denied existed. We haven’t finished finding solutions to the difficulties, but there has been a significant shift in the momentum; we’ve moved the needle; and we didn’t promise a life free of all kinds of security problems.”
