Conflict Between Fulani Herdsmen and Crop Farmers, Very Worrying

The crop farmers in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District have since being battling the Fulani Herdsmen in the enclave over destruction of farm crops by the cattle of the Herdsmen.

Farmers in the Afram Plains have waged a conflict against the Fulani Herdsmen in the area for allowing their cattle to destroy their crops causing so much losses to them. This menace is too worrying for the residents and most especially crop farmers which prompted them to level a conflict to defend their position before they are ruined by this Herdsmen.

According to the District Chief Executive to the Kwahu Afram Plains North District, Hon. Isaac Ofori-Koree, government has provided a grazing ground which is well constructed for the Herdsmen instead they decided to abandon the government’s effort whilst taking the animals out to cause damages to crop farmers.

He added that proper engagements have begun as he is engaging with the traditional leaders who might who might have something to do with the Herdsmen as well as the crop farmers within the Afram Plains enclave and from there he will proceed to AmankwaKrom to continue with the engagements and consultations on how to resolve the menace.

According to Hon. Isaac Ofori-Koree the Herdsmen have violated and crossed boundaries for not complying with the government to graze the animals in the government constructed grazing ground instead of taking the animals to destroy farmers crops. He thinks that this situation is one of urgency and must be delt with properly.

“The land belongs to the traditional leaders and the cattle also and for that matter government can not take a concrete measure on this situation aside this engagements and consultations with the proper owners of the land as well as the animals and that is exactly what we are doing for now to see the way forward in resolving the problem”, said Hon. Isaac Ofori-Koree.
