Environment Ttu Trees Planting

The Goshen Global Vision, an environmentally minded NGO, in collaboration with the Takoradi Technical University, has planted many species of trees at the University’s Akatakyi Campus.

The exercise saw a total of 1,740 species, ranging from fruits, herbal and umbrella trees being planted.TDr. Eric Bruce-Amartey Jnr, the Dean of Students of the University, said the exercise would not only promote green environment at the new campus but also help to reduce the insurgence of global warming.

He said the University’s environmental health department had been mandated to nurture and oversee the proper development of the trees to achieve the intended purposes.

The Executive Director of the NGO, Madam Mary Perpetual Kwakuyi, said the partnership with the institution stemmed an earlier relationship that yielded mutually beneficial results.

She noted how bad mineral exploration had also affected the forest cover, particularly illegal mining and the need to take steps to improve upon the situation.

Madam Kwakuyi noted how the trees could serve as habitat for environmentally friendly animals and serve as shade for students and create conducive learning environment.
