I’ve been a pickpocket and a prostitute for 23 years – 41- year-old

41-year-old Akosua Asenyo left home at age 18 because, according to her, she was maltreated by her grandparent. She shared her life on the streets of Accra in an area called Kokomba where she settled.

In an interview on Ghetto Life Story, Akosua disclosed that she began as a pickpocket and eventually added prostitution to ‘jobs.’ She has been a pickpocket and a prostitute for over two decades.

“I sleep with men for money. I smoked weed and even used cocaine before. I pickpocket and even do ‘store rushing’ (rob shops). It is all because of the drugs, and all I used the money for is to buy hard drugs,” she said on SVTV Africa.

Akosua, however, noted that she is growing old and would like to quit. “I need someone who will help me quit this lifestyle. It won’t be easy, but it will be at a slow pace. This is not the life we wanted.

If I get a helper, that would be the best. I only do cigarettes and Akpeteshie now. I quit the weed and cocaine because I don’t have money now.”

Speaking on the amount he makes as a prostitute, the Akosua mentioned that she makes about GHS200 to GHS500 daily.

Akosua is a mother to a 26-year-old who lives in Togo. She gave birth at age 15 and only met her child for the first time in 2020.
