iciHaiti - Petit-Goâve : The Government Commissioner come to the aid of the detainees

Following the starvation death of two detainees and several others in serious condition https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-37727-icihaiti-petit-goave-2-detainees-die-of-starvation-5-others-in-serious-condition.html in the prison of Petit-Goâve, the Government Commissioner Me Pierre Elioth Paul in order to observe the state of the prisoners visited the prison on Sunday, September 25th.

He interrogated a group of detainees in custody, very weak suffering from illnesses who were taken out of the cells. Me Elioth Paul decided to release two of them arrested and imprisoned for petty larceny and gave the order to transport several sick prisoners who were in critical condition to the Notre-Dame hospital.

The Commissioner promised that from this Monday, he will organize special correctional hearings at the Petit-Goâve Police Station in order to reduce the number of detainees as part of the fight against prolonged pretrial detention.
