A DELEGATION from Limerick are attending the Ryder Cup in Rome this weekend as preparations begin locally for the hosting of the contest in Adare Manor in four years' time.

And among those who will be watching closely how the Italians stage such a major event is owner of the five-star hotel and golf resort, JP McManus.

The competition is contested every two years by teams from Europe and the United States with the hosting of the event alternating between courses in the United States and Europe.

This weekend's much-anticipated contest will be the last time the biennial men's golf competition will be held on European soil before it's staged in Limerick in 2027.

This week, a group of staff from Adare Manor have joined staff from Limerick City and County Council in the Eternal City as part of a fact-finding trip in Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome where this weekend's contest is being staged.

Limerick Live understands Mr McManus is in that number, the county Limerick man being a huge golf fan himself and a regular attendee at Ryder Cup competitions.

A council spokesperson confirmed the attendance of local authority staff at the event in Rome.

"A small team of Limerick City and County Council staff are in Rome this week as guests of Ryder Cup Europe to meet with Ryder Cup officials on an operational and logistical fact finding trip in preparation for the 2027 Ryder Cup to be held in Adare," they stated.

In 2025, golf’s preeminent event heads to the world-renowned Black Course at Bethpage State Park in New York.
