Talented Jessica (10) taking the stage in Irish Junior Eurovision semi-final

Young Lifford songstress Jessica McKean is hitting all the right notes in her quest to represent Ireland in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

Jessica, aged 10, has made it through to the semi-final of the Irish selection contest, which airs on TG4 this Sunday 1st October at 8.30pm.

Last month she wowed the judges with a rendition of ‘I Will Always Love You’ by Whitney Houston in Irish.

Her chosen song this weekend is to be revealed, but audiences can expect more Irish versions of top hits.

Ireland finished fourth in the Junior Eurovision in Yerevan, Armenia last year with 13-year-old Sophie Lennon performing ‘Solas’ in Irish. Now the search is on for the next Irish Junior Eurovision 2023 entry.

Each year, the best young singers, aged 9-14, from across Europe compete in this huge event.

After months of auditions and televised heats, only 8 acts remain to represent Ireland. These semi-finalists will battle it out for a place in next week’s final performing for the judges – Niamh Ní Chróinín, Aindriú de Paor and tonight’s guest judge, Brian Kennedy, who performed at the Eurovision in 2006 with his song ‘Every Song is a Cry for Love’.

Jessica is hoping to go all the way to be Ireland’s entry in Nice, France on the 26th of November.
