“SOMEONE is going to be killed if it continues like this”.

The words of a Limerick councillor after a spate of anti-social behaviour incidents in Kilmallock.

The patrols are aimed at reducing anti-social behaviour and criminal activity that has increased in the area in recent months.

Supt Kennedy assured councillors at the September meeting of the Kilmallock/Cappamore municipal district that a number of investigations are underway and prosecutions have been sought relating to incidents.

The patrols will specifically be addressing the theft and breaking into of vehicles in the town.

Councillor PJ Carey welcomed the news of the patrols and said they were “badly needed”.

“It has gotten worse recently, especially the stuff with cars.

“Whatever about the lower level crime, someone could get killed with the joyriding going on.

“The patrols will deter them. When they see a guard they run, nothing else will work”.

On Friday, a juvenile was arrested in the town. It is believed the teen was arrested as part of the investigation into a number of incidents of anti-social behaviour and criminal incidents.

It is also believed the juvenile is 15-years-old.

Supt Kennedy assured locals and councillors that gardai would have specific plans in place during the Halloween period to deter anti-social behaviour.
