Iran has promised Thailand that it will no longer try to carry out attacks on Israeli targets on its soil, according to a report on Tuesday.
Citing a Foreign Ministry cable and a pair of Israeli officials, the Walla news site reported Tuesday that Bangkok informed Jerusalem of the development during a high-level diplomatic visit to Thailand.
The Israeli delegation was reportedly led by Aliza Bin Noun, the Foreign Ministry’s political director.
The report said a senior Thai diplomat told Bin Noun that Iranian officials reaffirmed the pledge not to attack Israelis while he was visiting Tehran in August.
Iran has in the past tried to carry out several attacks against Israelis in Thailand, including a number of attempts reported in June. The southeast Asian country is a popular tourist destination for Israelis, particularly for many former IDF soldiers who embark on travel shortly after completing their mandatory military service.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry declined to comment, while the Thai Embassy in Israel told Walla that the facts of the report were not accurate.
In addition to Thailand, Iran has recently tried to target Israelis in other countries to retaliate for several high-profile assassinations and mysterious deaths of top Iranian officials in recent years, as part of the long ongoing shadow war between Jerusalem and Tehran.
The recent Iranian efforts to target Israelis abroad include the attempted killing of an Israeli-Georgian businessman engaged in pro-Israel activity in Eastern Europe and a plot to target Israeli citizens in Turkey.
Last week, the Kan public broadcaster reported that Israel has upped its protection of current and former senior security personnel, particularly when they are abroad, amid heightened tensions with Iran.
